Main Bathroom & Powder Room renovation

Modern functionality but jammed with personality
Client Brief:
We were excited when we received this brief from our client at Marsden Terrace. The client wanted to improve functionality and modernise their main bathroom and powder room spaces to better align with the rest of the already renovated home but very importantly still show personality. Side note: we’ve seen those exact orignal red mosaic tiles before in a renovation – they must have been very common the MidNorth Coast in the 70’s.
The Challenges:
As with many renovations, there were challenges to navigate, including asbestos removal, a complete layout change, the installation of new windows, in-screed floor heating, and resolving detailed construction challenges such as aligning VJ panelling to sit flush above the skirting tiles. Particular care was also taken to match the bathroom tapware finish to the kitchen, ensuring continuity throughout the home. These details, while often unseen, are what elevate the finished result.
The Design:
The new main bathroom was designed to increase space and remove the bath, with a material and colour palette that balances softness, texture and individuality. Green-toned herringbone feature tiles pair with undulating zellige-style wall tiles to create movement, while traditional nickel tapware and a custom curved fluted shower screen bring detail and elegance. The fluting detail was echoed in the vintage-inspired fluted glass lighting used across both rooms, creating a sense of cohesion. Adding further character, a repurposed chest of drawers was thoughtfully integrated as a vanity, bringing warmth, sustainability and personality, while features such as mosaic tiling gives this space its distinctive identity.
In the powder room, the goal was to create a fun and impactful powder room and to add a sink so it could function separately by itself. The floating timber shelf softens the room. While choosing a moody floral wallpaper and vintage prints bring in bolder design. Further proof that smaller spaces like powder rooms are the perfect place to take creative risks and entertain your guests when they pop to the loo.
Through a layout reconfiguration, these spaces were reimagined function separately while but tied together subtly through small touches like fluted glass.
The Results:
The result is a detail driven renovation that balances functionality with personality, creating spaces that feel considered, spacious and deeply personal. From old and tired to thoughtful and full of character, this transformation is a refined example of individuality meeting timeless design.

small details give these two rooms heaps of personality!
This project looked good from so many angles across the moody powder room and the main bathroom. Here’s a collection of our favourite photos from this very special project.
